A kid’s birthday party is not complete without birthday party decorations.
Kids of different ages have different tastes, and that is especially true when it comes to birthday parties. Unfortunately, this can make it difficult for you to plan the perfect party for your child. However, appropriate birthday party decorations do not have to be a mystery. Instead, by looking at the age range that your child falls into you may be able to get a bit of guidance to help you properly plan a great party.
0-3 Years Old
This is probably the easiest age group to plan for because the reality is that children from 0-3 will probably not remember their party. However, that does not mean that you do not want to create a great event for them. Instead, you want to choose something that will delight your child. Generally at this age you want to choose birthday party decorations that are bright in color and fun in design. You may even want to look at a fun and age appropriate character to center your decorations around like Elmo from Sesame Street. Coordinate your balloons, streamers, and paper products with that theme for a cohesive look.
4-6 Years Old
This age range loves characters, and that is what you should center your birthday party decorations around. Talk to your child to determine who their favorite character is so that you can plan around that. Girls typically love princesses like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White. They also like dolls like Barbie. Boys on the other hand like more manly characters like GI Joe or one of the race cars from the movie Cars. You can usually find these types of decorations at your local party supply store.
7-10 Years Old
Kids at this age start to get a bit more sophisticated. While they may still be fans of some of the characters that the 4-6 year olds like, their tastes are starting to get a bit more mature. This may mean that they are starting to like characters like Hannah Montana or movies like Camp Rock. Additionally, they may like more simple themes like a rock star party or a football party. Keep this in mind when you are choosing decorations and try to find something that coordinates with these themes.
10-12 Years Old
You are now officially entering the age of the tweens, and the birthday party that you throw for your tween should reflect their tastes. This may mean that you want to center the party around a tween icon like the Jonas brothers or a fun activity like laser tag. Try to keep your party in a theme that your kid will love. Take a cue from your child’s interests to help you decide what type of birthday party decorations you need.
13+ Years Old
Once your child enters the teenage years your control of their birthday party themes may wane a bit. They are going to want to have some input on what their party is going to be, and that is fine. When you are dealing with this you may want to generalize the decorations that you are purchasing. What does this mean? Rather than purchasing specifically themed decorations you may want to choose birthday party decorations that are merely coordinated by color. This will give your teenager the opportunity to customize their party as they see fit.
When planning for a kid’s birthday party, one of the most important things to have are the right kids birthday party supplies on hand.
